I have known of podcasting for a long time now as a great way to get access to news and more. Typically finding the content and getting an easy delivery mechanism is traditionally the problem. In the past you would have to go and find all the various podcasts out there and also choose an audio delivery device. All files are typically pushed or delivered via RSS in most cases. That push mechanism is great for the content producer but inconvenient for you because you have to run software to manage all of these pushed files.
Stitcher.com to the rescue:
- Has pre-filled/pre-syndicated categories that most users like
- Has the audio delivery built in to a nice little flash app
- Bonus: Has an iPhone interface
Overall, its a pretty good user interface as well with a text summary of the content, and an indication of what’s playing next. And of course, they have the obligatory CRM and personalization capabilities.
Using it now for about half an hour while writing this post, I like it. Its my first return to podcasting since I last looked at the technology a year ago or so. I never took it seriously simply because I had to go and find the content myself and setup yet more software so couldn’t be bothered at the time.
I can see myself using this during the week at work while installing builds or something. :). Maybe I will signup and let you know how it goes.
